Mission: The Van Alstyne Community Development Corporation is committed to enhancing the quality of life in Van Alstyne by attending to the civic, cultural and social elements which contribute to the vitality of the community in Van Alstyne, Texas.
How is it funded? In 1996, the voters approved a measure allocating 0.25% of sales tax dollars generated in the city to the VACDC, 0.25% to the Van Alstyne Economic Development Corporation, and 0.50% to reduce the property taxes paid by the residents. Texas state law empowers cities to use a portion of their sales tax for economic development.
How are funding decisions made? The VACDC Board of Directors votes to fund projects, usually a year in advance. We are looking to fund projects that will cause businesses and employees to want to move to Van Alstyne.
Who is the CDC? Seven volunteers to serve two year terms on on the CDC Board. People interested in serving the CDC may fill out an application to the Board, and the City Council votes to appoint members to the Board. To be eligible, you must have lived in Van Alstyne or the Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (73.7 square miles) for two years.
